← Ankit Goyal FAQs for Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in my group. I will join the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2027 and am recruiting PhD students. Below are answers to the questions I am asked most often.

For Prospective PhD Students

Do you have PhD positions for Fall 2027?

Yes, I am actively looking for new PhD students. I am based in the Robotics Department, so I encourage you to apply to the University of Michigan Robotics PhD program; students in the CSE PhD program can also work with me. Please mention my name in your statement of purpose.

Should I email you before applying?

Emailing is not required. But if you would like to introduce yourself, email me with the subject line “[Prospective PhD – Michigan]”, attach your CV/resume, and briefly answer two questions:

  1. What kind of research do you want to pursue?
  2. Which research paper (mine or others’) do you find most exciting, and why?
Given the volume, I may not be able to reply to everyone, but I do read these.

For Current & Admitted Michigan Students

I am a current or admitted graduate student at the University of Michigan. Can I explore the possibility of joining your lab?

I am a University of Michigan undergraduate. Are there opportunities to participate in your research? Are there any prerequisites?
